how to diet diabetic patients

today we’re going to talk about a way toplan your meals that many healthcare professionals recommend-- it's called the plate method. the plate method uses the dinner plate itselfas a blueprint for healthy meals. by reserving a portion of the plate for differenttypes of food, it can help you build meals with the proper amounts and proportions ofprotein, starches, fruits and vegetables. the traditional plate method uses a nine-inchplate. you’d better measure yours, as most platesthat people use are bigger than this. when you set your plate on the table, imagineit divided in half and then one side divided again. the large space is for non-starchy vegetables, with most experts recommending at least two in each meal. non-starchy vegetables include lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, green beans, broccoli, and cauliflower. one of the smaller spaces is for your proteinserving—like meat, fish, or eggs. a properly-sized serving is usually 3 oz.for women and 4 oz. for men, or abou...

ever looked on the internet for the best weight loss diets? if you have, you̢۪ve probablyread about the next best diet in the world called the paleo diet. but what exactly isthis paleo diet and what makes it better than all the other diets our there?paleo is short for paleolithic, a prehistoric period of human development that existed overtwo and a half million years ago. during this paleolithic era, humans have yet to learnabout agriculture and animal domestication. this meant that humans only ate food thatwere readily available to them in their surrounding environment . they then genetically adaptedto become stronger and healthier by consuming more of these foods. advocators of the dietargue that there has been too little of a time frame between the end of the paleolithicera and modern day for the human body to adapt to today's western diet. the lack of adaptationis supposedly responsible for the existence of modern diseases today such as diabetesand obesity. this paleo-type die...

Indoor Grilled Chicken, Low-Carb Style

Try Indoor Grilled Chicken, Low Carb at Its Best! (Photo by Ray Dehler )    What do you normally think of when you picture Italian food? Probably not something that’s quick and easy to fix. Am I right? Most people think about homemade spaghetti, Lasagne, or an extra-large slice of pizza with all of the trimmings. While you can certainly find alternative ways to replace most of those carbs, with the holidays right around the corner, you’re going to need a few low-carb dinner ideas that are quick and simple. Here’s one of my favorites. Marinate and Grill Your Chicken Chicken makes an extremely economical low-carb meal. In my own area, we can get boneless, skinless chicken breasts at our local WalMart for less than $2 a pound. I do have to buy a family pack to get it at that price, but many times our small local grocery store runs special deals on Thursdays. Those deals are even cheaper. Sometimes, I can purchase chicken breast for as low as $1.79 a pound. I don’t use the frozen ...

Do You Have Nightshade Sensitivity or Allergy?

Do you have nightshade sensitivity or allergy? How about an autoimmune disease? Arthritis? Fibromyalgia? If so, you might not be able to eat certain vegetables, fruits, and spices without suffering pain, inflammation, and other health complaints. You can even stall in your low-carb diet because inflammation can interfere with weight loss. I didn't realize that nightshades were so common among low-carb recipes and menus until I actually looked at which vegetables and spices are nightshades, and then at what most people eat on a low-carb diet. When I did that, I was literally shocked! Low-carb recipes and menus are chock full of nightshades. For that reason, even if you are not allergic to nightshades, you might want to pay attention to just how many you're eating and cut back on them a little bit -- especially if you're having problems losing weight. BASIC NIGHTSHADE PRIMER This is going to be a basic nightshade primer, which I'm hoping a lot of people will find helpful,...
