How to Turn Your Low Carb Diet into a Lifestyle

Image
Make Low-Carb Lifestyle Changes One at a Time Low carb isn’t a diet – it’s a lifestyle. We hear that all the time. In fact, even the latest Weight Watchers commercials are saying exactly the same thing: this isn’t a diet; it’s a lifestyle. We love the idea of not dieting. We love the idea of being able to eat to satisfaction. Plus, going into carb restriction with the perception that it’s for life helps to eliminate the dieting mindset that so many low-carb dieters fall into. We truly believe we can eat this way for the rest of our lives with no problems. Who couldn’t? You get to eat fatty meats such as pork ribs and bacon, real butter and sour cream, put heavy whipping cream in your coffee or tea, and munch on mixed nuts, assorted cheeses, olives and deviled eggs – all without having to count the calories. There’s cheesecake for dessert, low-carb pancakes and muffins, jalapeno hot poppers and dozens of ways to enjoy chicken wings. But then your birthday or anniversary rolls around or...

How to Survive Halloween on a Low-Carb Diet

How to Survive Halloween on a Low-Carb Diet (Photo by ylacarmoberg ) As Halloween approaches, a house loaded with Halloween candy for the neighborhood kiddies becomes a major problem for many low-carb dieters. My husband loves his mini candy bars and Tootsie Rolls , so I can certainly sympathize and relate. In fact, he started asking me on the very first day of October when I was going to buy the Halloween candy. Although he eats candy regularly – now that he’s given up smoking – he has a special fondness for Halloween. To him, it just isn’t Halloween without candy. He tries to be sneaky about it. The candy is for all of those trick-or-treaters. We can’t disappoint the neighborhood kids, so maybe we should buy the candy early. That way we won’t have to settle for what’s leftover in the stores on the day before Halloween. I only played that game once. Once was more than enough to figure out I’d been duped. We live about half a dozen blocks from the local church, or less, so we don’t get...

today, i'd like to talk aboutturning around an epidemic. one hundred million americans right nowdo have either diabetes or pre-diabetes, and that puts themat risk for amputations, for heart disease, for blindness. and we're exportingthis epidemic overseas. the word "epidemic" comes from old greek: 'epi' means 'on', 'demos' means 'people', so an epidemic is something we study withsterile statistics, and maps, and graphs, but the truth is, it's something that impinges directly on people,on living, breathing human-beings. but my story actually startsin the basement of a minneapolis hospital. the year before i went to medical school,i was the morgue attendant, or as i'd like to say,"the autopsy assistant". what that meant was, whenever anybody died,i would bring the body out of the cooler, and put the body onan examination table, and the pathologistwould come into the room. and one day, a person diedin a hospital of a mass...

hi and a huge welcome to steve's kitchen. today we're making a sugar-free custard one of my regular viewers sharon, asked me to make a sugar free icecream and all great ice creams start with a vanilla custard. now i'm going to be using stevia, you canget it in liquid form which is highly concentrated, you use afew drops of this if you're using it to replace sugar andyou can also get stevia in a powder form it is often like to like so oneteaspoon of this equals a teaspoon of sugar. this one's called natvia i'm going tobe using this to make my custard. now let me show you how now first of all i'm just going to put 1 pint of full cream milk into a heavy based saucepan ideally youwant a saucepan with a fairly thick base and then we want to flavor that with vanillanow always use either a vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract don't use an essenceif you're going to the trouble of making custard. you can also use a proper vanilla bean.now i'm just goi...
