Protein Deficiency – Am I Getting Enough Protein?

Image
Am I Getting Enough Protein? (Photo by Florian ) With Nutritional Ketosis being held up lately as the Holy Grail of low-carb eating, there’s a lot of confusion regarding protein consumption, and just how much you need. Most of those who are turning to the Nutritional Ketosis way of eating are doing that because they have stalled in their weight-loss efforts. They are not dropping their protein intake because it’s healthier than a traditional low-carb diet. They are doing what they need to do to succeed. So How Much Protein Do You Need? Some of the numbers being tossed around lately are as low as .6 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass, but that’s the bare minimum a sedentary person needs to keep up with muscle repair. That doesn’t cover gluconeogenesis to supply the amount of glucose the brain, red blood cells, and kidney needs to function properly or the extra damage you do to your muscles during heavy exercise. That’s just the bare minimum a person who’s eating carbohydrates ...

Personalize Your Low Carb Diet Plan with Atkins 72

(This is part 9 and the final installment of a multi-part series on How to Tweak a Low Carb Diet . It explains the path I have traveled in my weight loss journey. If you arrived here without reading part 1, you can do so by clicking on the how-to link. Part 1 also contains links to the other posts in this series.) When you begin to restrict carbohydrates to less than about 100 carbs per day, the body is forced to draw upon its liver glycogen to keep your blood glucose levels steady. That’s according to Dr. Michael Eades. I can also tell you from experience, that during those first few days, the brain doesn’t get the proper amount of fuel to function correctly. Or at least, I don’t. I know that because I start having severe vertigo attacks. Other people have talked about being tired or having brain fog. Now, the way it’s supposed to work is that the liver converts the protein you don’t need for immediate repair purposes to glucose to feed the brain. The brain can partially run on ketone...

Is a Low-Carb Diet Sustainable for Life?

I recently received a comment from a reader that suggested my lack of dieting success was probably due to my inability to stay with one particular low-carb diet plan long enough to reap results. The advice I received was to go on a low-carb, high-fat diet and give it six months or more to work before analyzing.  That was similar to the advice I received from the zero-carb folks a few years ago when despite the fact that I had gained about 20 pounds in the first three weeks and was experiencing abnormally high blood glucose levels, they told me to eat only beef, drink only water, and wait six months before reviewing the results. They didn't seem to care about the resurrected neuropathy. They were just sure that their way was the only way.  The problem with that type of advice is that it doesn't work for everyone.  Take Responsibility for Your Own Health Correcting metabolic issues isn't always as easy as lowering your carbohydrate level. For example, I'm juggling vertigo...

Setting a Realistic Weight Loss Goal

No matter which low carb diet program you choose, one of the first things most dieters do is set a weight loss goal. Most of the time, this goal involves a number on the scale. Sometimes, that number is realistic, but most of the time it's not. Weight charts are sometimes used by medical professionals to tell you exactly what you should weigh. Many dieters use them to help them make a weight loss goal. These numbers are supposed to take your height, gender and sometimes age under consideration. The general rule is that a 5-foot individual such as myself should weigh about 100 pounds. A man should weigh around 110. For every inch taller, you would add an additional 5 or 6 pounds. These charts were designed for life insurance companies, not dieters. Hence, the numbers reflect life expectancy for the average individual and sit on the low side of reality – especially since our food supply has changed drastically since then. Measuring body mass index (BMI) is similar. BMI looks at your ...

[music] so you got 4 workoutscovering the whole body over a 6-day period. having said that, you gotta be flexible. if you need an extra day forrecovery, then take an extra day so that'll become 4 days over 7. some people may need even more, you gotta listen to your body. if you need more days to recoverthen, you know, just extend that cycle into 7 days or 8days or whatever you need. extra negatives are atool that you can use to increase the intensity. basically, you gotthree phases of strength. the weakest phaseis the positive or the lifting of the weight. that's the weakest phase. the second phase ofstrength is the static. you're stronger on the static. and then the thirdphase is the negative. unfortunately, a lot of peoplethink in terms of just lifting weight so for instance,a bench press, they lifted theweight to the top. all right, job done andjust drop it back down and do another one. they're missing half of the repand possibly the most important half of the rep beca...

apple cider vinegar turkey recipe

hello everybody diana here and welcome to my series hormonal balances for simple weight loss. this video, we're going to cover the hormone insulin. insulin's main function in the body is to carry the sugar in your blood to the cells. and the cells will uptake that sugar and convert that sugar either into energy or into body fat. another thing that insulin is important for is recovering from exercise and building muscle tissue. insulin also plays a huge role in metabolism. the problem is when we have too much insulin, it can prevent the breakdown of body fat. so how do we end up with a high-level of insulin? well, by getting sugar into our bloodstream. so what gets sugar into our bloodstream is carbohydrates. and let me just explain something about carbohydrates here. we have the complex carbs, we have simple carbs, and we have man-made carbs. now the complex carbs... the complex carbs when they go into your body it takes your body a long time to break it down and to process it ...
